Questions and Answers, Warranties explained
We are often asked these questions so thought it may save time and clarify things if we answered them here, also we have offered some advice which we hope will be of interest to those of you who are first time buyers. You can still of course ring or e-mail us with any questions or queries you have, if you have any suggestions or comments about this page or site we'd love to hear them too - you can use our contact us page to let us know!
Can I buy without viewing ?
YES ... If you live miles from us and do not wish to travel you can buy some of our horses without viewing - but please be honest with us about what you want from a horse, what you want to do with him or her and about your own level of riding - we can then try to match you perfectly!
If I buy without viewing and don't like the horse can I have a refund ?
YES ... Under distance selling regulations you are entitled to a 7 day period within which if you are not entirely satisfied you may return the horse for a full refund. This is law so please be aware of anyone who attempt to get you to sign "warranties " before delivery, these are usually get out clauses for them .. if in doubt contact trading standards before you sign anything. Sadly due to the abuse of this with customers effectively 'borrowing' horses we do charge £150 for each horse returned to cover some of our costs, you also agree to provide or pay for transport and to arrange insurance.
What warranty do we give ?
We warrant every horse for a period of 30 days if you are unhappy with your horse within this period please contact us to discuss your problems and to arrange to choose a replacement horse, of course the horse must be returned in the same condition as it was at the point of sale, all costs incurred during the warranty period including transportation will be your responsibility.
Do we loan / trial horses ?
NO ...unfortunately we can't as we have horses abused and returned thin, lame, minus tails, shoes and worse, it can take considerable time & expense to return horses to the same mental & physical condition as when they left and it is not in their interests to be constantly changing homes, however you are welcome to try as many horses as you wish as many times as you wish and may bring your friends, professional advisors and vets to help you make your decision.
What about vaccinations, worming, shoeing, passports etc. ?
All horses are wormed, shod and passported some have vaccination cards but generally the Irish horses do not, we do not vaccinate horses as it is such a conflicting area with some people wanting it and others not believing in it.
What about vetting?
Most of our horses are checked before being offered for sale and are warranted sound however you are most welcome to arrange a pre purchase vets examination at your own expense. We can supply a list of horse vets in our area most of whom have been to us before and therefore know of us and will recommend us, alternatively you can have the horses vetted at home by your own veterinary surgeon providing this is completed within the warranty period.
Transport ?
We can arrange transport for your new horse to your door at very competitive rates.
Advice for new owners
Have you ever bought a product having seen it demonstrated by someone else and having been impressed only to be frustrated when you get it home and can't get it to work? Buying a horse can be the same if not worse as you are not dealing with a product that comes with a manual but an unpredictable animal...riding is a partnership of which you make up 50 % so please be prepared to give it time and have lessons, this is why we give the 30 day exchange warranty. Horses can and do change characters from rider to rider and yard to yard, additionally they can also change depending on whether stabled or at grass and even if they like their companions or not . The horse cannot speak to say he's afraid or in pain so can only communicate through his actions, very few horses are genuinely bad or mad. Most new owners are best suited to a laid back quiet type of horse, however even these types with their laid back natures can be spoilt very quickly and turned into problem horses in wrong hands .. for example a quiet lazy cob can be likened to a quiet lazy person unless prompted they do nothing!! Let the horse do what he wants a few times and it becomes a habit and before long he's stopping at the gate every time or refusing to leave the yard, no matter how novice or nervous you are you must take charge and be in control from day one, many of you have children and a lot of childcare commonsense / discipline can be applied to horses.. if you need help or advice please ask - most teething problems can be resolved if nipped in bud!
