Lars Sjöswärd started the business in 1988 after seeing how cold his daughter Catherina used to get when riding in winter. Now Mountain Horse is famous world wide for its practical and warm riding clothing.

The focus has always been that the purpose should satisfy a need. Lars and Catherina took charge of the design themselves and in 1988 the three first ground-breaking products were launched: Winter Rider – the world’s first insulated riding boot; Easy Rider – a boot in the shape of a basketball trainer with a riding sole and heel; and Rocky Mountain – a jacket designed specifically for riders with watertight seams, ventilation beneath the yoke and rear riding vents for comfort in the saddle making it warm and comfortable to wear. Mountain Horse SCS3 Quick Release Stirrup Iron

• New attractive, one-piece release stirrup, where the release
mechanism is in unison with the stirrup in a way that is so
far unsurpassed, which makes the Quick Release Stirrup
look more solid and "complete" in comparison with other
similar products on the market.
• Made from strong, solid, hardened stainless steel.
• The Quick Release Stirrup is unique in that it can be
released at different angles depending on the direction of
the fall, weather it comes from below, the side or above.
• The base that holds the "release tube" in place acts as a
side support for the foot, while at the same time it prevents
the foot setting off the release mechanism accidentally.
• The Quick Release Stirrup is also equipped with a gentle
backward inclination to help you to achieve better heels
down position.
• The Quick Release Stirrup comes with a special SCS3
stirrup tread that integrates with the SCS3 system which is
incorporated in the outsole of an SCS3 labelled shoe/boot,
which is necessary to use in order to achieve full effect of
the SCS3 system.

When the SCS3 System is not in use (with the SCS3 Stirrup pad), then the SCS3 footwear will function like any other standard riding footwear and will not feel different in any way, either when riding in conventional stirrups / stirrup treads or walking etc.This is because the SCS3 only uses a rubber tread like any other regular rubber outsole.

The Quick Release Stirrup fits most other stirrup treads on the market today. Please note, however, that it is recommended to use SCS3 stirrup treads with the SCS3 boots in order to maximise performance of the system.
The Quick Release Stirrup fits all boots and shoes in the Mountain Horse range. Please note, however, that the SCS3 system is not fully functional in cases where outsoles without the SCS3 system are used.

This unique stirrup tread is constructed from two rubber composites. Both layers have shock-absorbing qualities to reduce stress and strain on the joints of the legs, hip and back. The red and black tread is higher at the front to help the heel rest in a natural downwards position. SCS3 treads fit most irons and provide improved grip compared to conventional treads, even when used with non-SCS3 boots.
