Lars Sjöswärd started the business in 1988 after seeing how cold his daughter Catherina used to get when riding in winter. Now Mountain Horse is famous world wide for its practical and warm riding clothing.
The focus has always been that the purpose should satisfy a need. Lars and Catherina took charge of the design themselves and in 1988 the three first ground-breaking products were launched: Winter Rider – the world’s first insulated riding boot; Easy Rider – a boot in the shape of a basketball trainer with a riding sole and heel; and Rocky Mountain – a jacket designed specifically for riders with watertight seams, ventilation beneath the yoke and rear riding vents for comfort in the saddle making it warm and comfortable to wear.
